Our History – From Waste to Wonder
“The Radical Act of Reforestation”
The history of La Esquinita del Bambú is a story of faith in nature’s ability to bounce back. Years ago, the land we stand on was used as a dumping ground. It was compacted, polluted, and forgotten. Our mission was to prove that no land is beyond saving. We began by clearing tons of debris, followed by the slow, rewarding work of soil regeneration. By adding tons of natural compost, using organic bio-solutions, incorporating beneficial microorganisms and using harvested rain water, we turned grey waste into green life.
After many years of hard labour working on the land and planting hundreds of fruit trees, shrubs and flowers, the land has fully recovered and is bursting with wildlife. La Esquinita del Bambú is now home to dozens of bird species, armadillos, opossums, wild cats, squirrels, iguanas and a collection of endangered trees and plants. Our land is a safe heaven and nesting ground to the iconic Turquoise-browed Motmot (locally known as the Torogoz).
As a principle, we have never used a drop of agro-toxic chemicals, we only use safe, natural organic and permaculture solutions to ensure the health, safety and regeneration of all life on the land. Many of these solutions, fertilizers and repellents come directly from the plants we grow like Moringa and Achiote/Annatto.

Bamboo – The Heart of our Project
“The Sustainable Frontier”
Over a decade ago, we rescued dozens of bamboo samples from a jeopardized project, transplanting them to our land to reach their full, majestic potential. In the years since, we have meticulously curated a collection of diverse species, strengthening our genetic bank and fostering a resilient, thriving ecosystem. Today, we invite you to experience the fruit of that labor: a tranquil walk beneath a soaring canopy of bamboo, where nature’s strength and serenity meet
Bamboo is a powerhouse for the planet because it is the fastest-growing plant on Earth, making it a highly renewable resource that can be harvested in just a few years without killing the plant. It actively fights climate change by absorbing massive amounts of carbon dioxide and releasing 35% more oxygen than a similar stand of trees. Additionally, its complex, net-like root system acts as a natural anchor for the earth, which is vital in mountainous regions like Chalatenango to prevent soil erosion and landslides during heavy tropical rains.
Bamboo is a great renewable construction material alternative. At La Esquinita we select the best stalks for construction, furniture, and artisanal crafts. Our buildings seek to be “carbon-negative,” meaning they store more carbon than was used to build them—a blueprint for the future of housing in El Salvador.

Our Mission – Empowering the Community
“Help Us Build a Free Education Centre for El Salvador”
Our ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between ecological innovation and the local community. We are working to establish a Permanent Education Centre at La Esquinita del Bambú—a space dedicated to sharing the secrets of sustainable living and environmental stewardship.
A Sanctuary for the People. Beyond education, our mission is to provide the community with a vibrant meeting place—a sanctuary for relaxation, lifelong learning, and cultural expression. We believe that a resilient community needs a space to reconnect with nature and each other. By offering a peaceful environment where families can gather and neighbours can collaborate, we are fostering the social bonds that make Chalatenango strong.
Empowering the Next Generation. Today, many of our talented young people feel forced to seek opportunities abroad, leaving their roots in search of a future. We want to change that narrative. By providing high-value skills and economic alternatives right here in Chalatenango, we empower our youth to build a prosperous life on their own soil and learn about the benefits of Bitcoin to achieve a resilient circular local economy that will benefit them directly.

What will our education centre offer?
I. Education & Professional Training
Living Classroom

Establish an educational tour with tagged species and information boards, turning our land into an interactive botanical library.
Bamboo Construction

Create specialized workshops teaching “Vegetable Steel” building techniques to create sustainable housing, furniture and arts and crafts.
A Permanent Team

Funding a dedicated staff to lead year-round, free courses workshops, propagation or endangered species of plants and maintenance.
II. Conservation & Sustainability
The Bamboo Nursery

A specialized programme dedicated to the propagation of our diverse collection of bamboo. We aim to provide high-quality “Vegetable Steel” saplings to the community, helping farmers and builders adopt this sustainable resource.
Rare Species Conservation

We act as a botanical sanctuary for endangered native trees and plants of the Chalatenango region. By reproducing these threatened species, we can share them freely with neighbours to restore the local ecosystem.
The Community Seed Bank

We gather seeds from threatened regional flora and organize local gatherings where community members can trade, learn, and take home the seeds needed to restore biodiversity in their own backyards.
III. Culture, Art & Family
Artist-in-Residence Program

Funding artists to create a folklore sculpture park that celebrates Salvadoran identity.
Cultural Events

Hosting events and festivals that keep the traditions of Chalatenango alive and vibrant.
Adventure & Family Space

A sustainable adventure park for children and beautiful common areas for families to reconnect with nature.
IIII. Health & Nutrition
Organic & Medicinal Production

The cultivation and sale of organic produce and medicinal plants, providing the community with clean, healing alternatives to industrial products.
Nutrition & Herbal Education

An educational program focused on healthy eating, traditional herbalism, and the power of natural remedies found in our local environment.
Organic Farmers Markets

Hosting regular community events where local farmers can sell their organic harvest directly to families, fostering a healthy local economy.
Help us – Lets transform the community
“Every Little Action can Cause a Big Reaction“
We are working hard on this mission but with no financial support from external organisations, NGO’s or local government, all costs have been privately funded with our own life savings. We want to thank all volunteers who have helped us over the past two years since we started the volunteering programme, every pair of hands help us get closer to our goals!
We hope to reach out to the global “Bitcoin Community” for help to make this dream come true. Your donation or volunteering can make a huge difference to the lives of many people with less opportunities.
